The first specimen was lot 4829 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$759 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PORTUGAL João V. 1706-1750. Quartinho – 1000 Reis 1711. Gutes sehr schön. (Portugal, John V, 1706-50, quartinho (1000 réis) of 1711, good Very fine.)"
This type was struck 1707-47 at Lisbon. With a forty year production run, one would suppose this coin to be common, and it is priced low in the SCWC, but it is in fact seldom seen.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.69 g, 0.917 fine gold, .079 troy oz AGW, the first specimen 2.60 g.
Catalog reference: Gomes-88.05, Fr-98, KM 182.
