The first specimen was lot 940 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$191 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PORTUGAL | Königreich, João V. 1706-1750. 1000 Reis 1709, Lissabon. Sehr schön. Kleine Randfehler. (kingdom of Portugal, John V, 1706-50, 1000 réis of 1709, Lisbon mint. Very fine, Minor edge faults.)"
This quartinho was struck 1707-22, 1733, 1736-41, 1745-47 at Lisbon. With a forty year production run, one would suppose this coin to be common, and it is priced low in the SCWC, but it is in fact seldom seen.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.69 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 2.67 g.
