Künker sale 335, lot 4205

This specimen was lot 4205 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$10,469 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"POMMERN, POMMERN, HERZOGTUM NACH DER LANDESVEREINIGUNG. Bogislaw XIV. (1620-) 1625-1637. Reichstaler 1629, Stettin. RR Schöne Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 107, Osnabrück 2006, Nr. 789 (dort mit falscher Hildisch Nr.). (Germany, unified duchy of Pomerania, Bogislav XIV, 1625-37, thaler of 1629, Stettin mint. Rare, nice patina.)"

We don't this this issue in the SCWC, nor the others Davenport mentions for 1629 (Dav-7268, -7269, -7270). On the lapse of the dynasty in 1637, the duchy was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.45 g.
