Poland 1931 5 zlotych
This specimen was lot 30394 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 5 Zlotych 1931-(W) MS61 NGC, Warsaw mint. A truly noteworthy selection, featuring the image of a winged Nike with her arms outstretched atop surfaces that are lightly toned and contain a surprising amount of bloom. Unremarkable wisps most likely account for the grade, but ultimately do little to detract from the overall appeal of this popular type. For reference, the SCWC prices this coin at $1,700 in XF, and since there are currently only a handful of certified mint-state examples of this date, it seems to follow that this well-defined and highly-coveted offering is worthy of a premium." This type was struck in large quantities 1928-32 at Warsaw, London and Brussels but is today rare, suggesting that the vast majority were melted. Altho it has a Davenport number, we deem it too small to be considered a crown.
Recorded mintage: 2,200,000.
Specification: 18 g, 0.750 fine silver.
