Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74430
SB223-74430r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74430 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 5 Zlotych, 1930. Warsaw Mint. NGC AU-55. A RARE year, this near-Mint example displays some very light handling upon the high points and presents great brilliance in the fields, ultimately allowing it to retain solid eye appeal upon each side." This type was struck in large quantities 1928-32 at Warsaw, London and Brussels but is today rare, suggesting that the vast majority were melted. Altho it has a Davenport number, we deem it too small to be considered a crown.

Recorded mintage: 5,900,000.

Specification: 18 g, 0.750 fine silver, lettered edge, 33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM Y18, Dav-251.
