Poland 1767-FS 4 groszy
This specimen was lot 1969 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$960 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLEN, Stanislas August Poniatowski, 1764-1795. 4 Groschen 1767, Warschau. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Hübsche Patina. (kingdom of Poland, Stanislas August Poniatowski, 1764-95, four groschen of 1767, Warsaw mint. Very rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Attractive patina.)"
This type was struck 1766-82. Stanislas Poniatowski, a former lover of Catherine the Great, was installed as her puppet king on the death of the Saxon August III. When he proved to be insufficiently pliant, the partitions began. One thaler = 8 złotych = 32 groszy.
