Poland 1766-G 3 grosze KM-182
This specimen was lot 3117 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 6,500 CHF (about US$9,797 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLEN Stanislas August Poniatowski, 1764-1795. 3 Grosze 1766, Warschau. Münzmeister Peter Nikolaus Gartenberg. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. (kingdom of Poland, Stanislas August Poniatowski, 1764-1795, three groschen of 1766, Warsaw mint. Rare in this condition. NGC MS64 BN.)"
This type was struck 1766-95 and has a low catalog value in circulated condition. KM 178, with a uniformed bust of the king, was also struck in 1766. We don't know why this example realized 65 times the catalog value.
Recorded mintage: 12,410,000, including KM 178.
Specification: copper, this specimen 11.58 g.
Catalog reference: KM 182, Gumowski 2348.
