SB126-41197r.jpg

This specimen was lot 41197 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $60,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Exceptionally Rare Stanislaus Augustus 3 Groszy Pattern in Silver, POLAND. Silver 3 Groszy Pattern, 1767-CI. Krakow Mint. Stanislaus Augustus. PCGS SPECIMEN-61. A VERY RARE Pattern 3 Groszy, in enviable Mint condition. We can find no other examples of this type trading at public auction in this composition of Silver. The surfaces dance with a bright glossiness, with a few colorful highlights throughout. A desirable piece when encountered in bronze, so we expect this example in silver to be taken to a new level of desirability. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." The SCWC notes a number of patterns for this denomination in 1767 (KM Pn71, Pn72, Pn73, Pn74, Pn75, Pn76, Pn77, Pn78, Pn79, Pn80, Pn81 and Pn82). The Trojak koronny actually adopted, KM 182 of 1766-94, was struck in copper. Stanislas August Poniatowski was the last king of independent Poland. By this time, Poland had lost most of her sovereignty, being the puppet of her neighbors Russia, Prussia and Austria.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: the production coin was 11.69 g, copper, 26 mm diameter.
