Künker sale 353, lot 3811

This specimen was lot 3811 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €85 (about US$118 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Kriegsprägungen in Sachsen. 8 Groschen 1753 (geprägt 1757-1762), EC, unbestimmte Münzstätte, mit Titel Augusts III. von Polen (als Friedrich August II. von Sachsen). Ephraimit. Geringhaltige Prägung. Leichte Prägeschwäche, vorzüglich. Als Münzstätten für diesen 8 Gröscher kommen Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Magdeburg, Aurich oder Breslau in Frage. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, war issue in Saxony, eight groschen of 1753 (actually struck 1757-62), uncertain mint, with the title of Augustus III of Poland, Ephraimite issue. Slightly weakly struck, extremely fine. These may have been struck in Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Magdeburg, Aurich or Breslau.)"

This type was struck 1753, 1756, 1761-62, altho only the 1753 is common. The SCWC lists this as an eight groschen, the German name, but we will use the Polish name even tho we don't know if this circulated in Poland at all. Varieties exist (see KM 157).
