Sincona sale 38, lot 1219

The first specimen was lot 2479 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 600 (about US$752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Goldgulden o. J. (1464). Heidelberg, Gutes sehr schön. (Heidelberg mint, good very fine)." The second specimen was lot 1219 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$570 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Pfalz-Kurlinie, Friedrich I. 1449-1476 Goldgulden o. J. (1464). Heidelberg. Sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Pfalz, Frederick I, 1449-76, undated goldgulden, Heidelberg mint. Very fine.)"

The Palatinate, on the border with France, was divided several times. Friedberg lists this type from the Bacharach and Heidelberg mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, the first specimen 3.35 g, the second specimen 3.29 g.
