Pfalz (1456) goldgulden Fr-1979
This specimen was lot 2258 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY | Pfalz | -Kurlinie, Friedrich I. 1449-1476. Goldgulden o. J. (1456), Bacharach. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (electorate of the Palatinate, Frederick I, 1449-76, undated goldgulden, Bacharach mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"
The Palatinate, one of the electoral dignities of the Holy Roman Empire, was divided and subdivided several times before passing to Bavaria on the eve of the French Revolution. The prince thereof was a major issuer of goldgulden in the late Middle Ages.
