Sincona sale 54, lot 227

This specimen was lot 227 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$625 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Pfalz-Kurlinie, Ludwig IV. 1436-1449. Goldgulden o. J. (1441/1449), Bacharach. Gutes sehr schön. Leichte Goldpatina. (Germany, electoral Pfalz, Louis IV, 1436-49, undated goldgulden, Bacharach mint. Good very fine, Light gold toning.)"

The Palatinate, on the border with France, was divided several times. Friedberg lists this type from the Bacharach mint.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.35 g.
