Künker sale 386, lot 6120

This specimen was lot 6120 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PFALZ, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Ludwig IV. 1436-1449. Goldgulden 1438, Bacharach. Wappen in Kleeblattstellung: Köln, Trier und Mainz; Beizeichen Stern. GOLD. Sehr schön. (electorate of the Palatinate, Louis IV, 1436-49, goldgulden of 1438, Bacharach mint. Arms in trefoil of Cologne, Trier and Mainz, star in center. Very fine.)"

This type was struck only at Bacharach only. It is somewhat scarce compared to other Pfalz goldgulden. The date can be made out in Roman numerals.

Specification: 3.50 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.42 g.
