Sincona sale 38, lot 1198

This specimen was lot 1198 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$540 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Mainz, Erzbistum, Adolph II. von Nassau, 1461-1475 Goldgulden o. J. (1464/65). Mainz. Sehr schön. Gewellt. (Germany, archbishopric of Mainz, Adolf II of Nassau, 1461-75, undated goldgulden, Very fine, Wavy planchet.)"

This type was struck during the reign of Adolf II of Nassau (1461-75). It is fairly common.
