Sincona sale 43, lot 3218

This specimen was lot 3218 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$507 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Pfalz-Kurlinie, Ludwig III. 1410-1436 Goldgulden o. J. (23.9.-15.12.1419). Heidelberg. Selten. Sehr schön. Doppelschlag. (Germany, electorate of the Palatinate, Louis III, 1410-36, undated goldgulden, Heidelberg mint. Rare, Very fine, Doublestrike.)"

The Palatinate, on the border with France, was divided several times. Friedberg lists this type from the Bacharach and Heidelberg mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3.41 g.
