Pfalz-Neuburg 1623 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1065 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$2,895 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Pfalz-Neuburg, Herzogtum. Wolfgang Wilhelm, 1614-1625. 1/2 Taler 1623, Gundelfingen. Von grösster Seltenheit. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Etwas dezentrierte Walzenprägung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg, Wolfgang William, 1614-25, half thaler of 1623, Gundelfingen mint. Of the highest rarity, Magnificent condition, Slightly off-center, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1623-24. In 1685, the heir succeeded to Pfalz-Simmern as well as Pfalz-Neuberg and the two were merged into Pfalz once again.
