Pfalz-Neuburg 1624-CE thaler Dav-7166
This specimen was lot 2138 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,134 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Pfalz-Neuburg, Herzogtum, Wolfgang Wilhelm, 1614-1625 Taler 1624. Kallmünz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleines Zainende. (Germany, duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg, Wolfgang William, 1614-25, thaler of 1624, Kallmünz mint, Very fine-extremely fine, Minor edge clip.)"
This type is one of a series featuring the duke in a ruffed collar (Dav-7158 thru Dav-7167) struck 1622-26. In 1685, the heir succeeded to Pfalz-Simmern as well as Pfalz-Neuberg and the two were merged into Pfalz once again.
