This specimen was lot 3279 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PERU. 50 Soles, 1962. NGC MS-67. Fr-79; KM-230. A positively glowing gem of a coin. Well struck with full detail and clear fields booming with luster. Tied with two other pieces as the finest certified with two additional examples of the overdate variety in this grade as well. In an older generation holder." This denomination, struck 1950-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold five, ten, twenty and hundred soles.
