This specimen was lot 30292 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,145.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Soles 1961/51 MS66 NGC, Lima mint. Clear 1961/51 overdate. Gem Mint state with unusually vibrant surfaces virtually devoid of any contact marks, as expected for the technical designation. The scarcer overdate variety for this elusive date - mintage is a reduced 1,110 pieces -, conditionally very rare in this superb quality with only 2 coins currently certified finer by NGC from a total population of just four examples." This denomination, struck 1950-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold five, ten, twenty and hundred soles.
