This specimen was lot 1237 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 4 escudos, Ferdinand VII, 1821 JP, rare, NGC AU details / removed from jewelry, ex-Almenara. Lustrous but polished, better-than-average strike but still with some weakness in center of reverse. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." In 1812-13, the Lima mint struck four escudos using the draped bust punch intended for the silver two reales. In 1814, the bare bust (shown here) was adopted and used until the end of colonial issues in 1821. All dates are scarce to rare. Assayer JP is recorded for 1803-23.
