This specimen was of lot 24509 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1765-JM, AU50 NGC, nicely struck with no adjustment marks or laminations, an attractive example of this scarce early type with plenty of mint luster."

Recorded mintage: unknown. All the dates of this type are rare; the SCWC prices them over three times the later issues of 1772-89.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW.
