This specimen was lot 1214 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $4,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 4 escudos, Ferdinand VI, 1759 JM, second bust, NGC AU details / removed from jewelry, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Sharply detailed and highly lustrous but with cleaned and lightly marked surfaces, rare type missing in both Eliasberg and Caballero. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1754 and 1757-59. Gold coins from Lima are much scarcer than issues from the Colombian mints. Assayer JM is recorded for 1751-72.
