This coin was lot 8691 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Escudos, 1758-JM. Scarce type. Scratch and planchet lamination on reverse, lustrous EXTREMELY FINE." This type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1754 and 1757-59. Gold coins from Lima are much scarcer than issues from the Colombian mints. Assayer JM is recorded for 1751-72.
