Peru 1750-L R real
This specimen was lot 762 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1750 (R), error with denomination 2 above cross, unique(?), ex-Ugaz. Off-center strike with lots of flatness to left of design on both sides, the pillars with clear denomination I and date 750 and the 1R-sized cross with clear denomination 2 (first and only example we have seen or heard of), lightly toned VG. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." This type was struck 1747-51 for king Ferdinand VI and is the last cob one real struck in Peru. Assayer R stamped his coins 1748-51. Lima finally began the conversion to milled coinage in 1751, starting with the gold coinage.
