This specimen was lot 58 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $21,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold cob 1 escudo, 1747/6 V, extremely rare, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Sellschopp, ex-Almenara, KM Plate. Broad flan with satin-smooth fields (small bits of dark sediment), choice full cross, full but off-center castle-side details including very bold overdate, which presumably spans the transition from Philip V to Ferdinand VI but without any legend to confirm. Note this coin is featured on the first page of color plates in the Sellschopp auction catalog. We have not seen another example, so we suspect that no others exist and that the catalog references are all generated from this one coin. Pedigreed to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, lot 249) and to the Almenara Collection, Plate Coin in KM's Standard Catalogs (all stated on label), also pedigreed to the Glendining auction of March 1936 (lot 349)." This type was struck 1747-50 and all dates are rare. The SCWC lists a regular date for 1747 but we don't know if it exists.

Recorded mintage: 664 (including the 1747/6 overdate).

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.28 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10691, S-L30a; Cal-593; Fr-15; KM-45.
