This specimen was lot 12409 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 2 Escudos, 1741-V. NGC AU-55. Philip V (1700-46). RARE." The type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1701-44; the date 1741 is listed for two and eight escudos cobs. Gold coins from colonial Peru are much scarcer than those from Colombian mints. Assayer V is recorded for 1741 and 1744.
