Sincona sale 50, lot 1142

This specimen was lot 1142 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$4,584 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Felipe V. 1700-1746. 8 Escudos 1731, LN-Lima. Cob type. 27.16 g. Cayon 10019. Selten und gut ausgeprägt. Leichte Fassungsspuren. Gutes sehr schön. (Peru, Philip V, 1700-46, eight escudos of 1731, Lima mint, cob type. Rare and well struck, Small traces of mounting, Good very fine.)"

This type is recorded for 1710-47. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.

Recorded mintage: 36,390.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW.
