This specimen was lot 683 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales, 1721 M, cross-of-five-dots at top, ex-Ugaz. Exceptionally choice full pillars with bold date and assayer, bold but slightly off-center full cross-lions-castles, attractively toned XF with some old pockmarks above the pillars, very scarce date (first example we have offered at auction). Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." Cob eight reales were struck at the Lima mint 1701-46 for Philip V of Spain and became the "pieces of eight" of pirate lore. Assayer Melgarejo ("M") operated 1709-28..
