Peru 1712-L M 8 reales
This specimen was lot 676 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales, 1712 M, row of three dots at top, ex-Ugaz. Well-centered full pillars and cross within flat peripheries, two dates, small edge-splits, lightly toned VF, apparently a very scarce date (first example we have offered at auction). Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." Cob eight reales were struck at the Lima mint 1701-46 for Philip V of Spain and became the "pieces of eight" of pirate lore.
