Passau 1694-MF 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 651 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €320 (about US$453 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · PASSAU, BISTUM Johann Philipp von Lamberg, 1689-1712. 1/2 Reichstaler 1694, Regensburg. Münzmeister Michael Federer. Stempelschneider Johann Adam Seitz. Sehr schön +. (Germany, bishopric of Passau, John Philip of Lamberg, 1689-1712, half thaler of 1694, Regensburg mint.)"
This is the last issue of this denomination from this state. It accompanied a thaler (Dav-5716). John Philip (1651-1712) was promoted to cardinal in 1700 and finished the St. Stephens cathedral in the town. The bishopric of Passau was annexed to Bavaria in 1803 and 1805.
