Künker sale 403, lot 1356

This specimen was lot 1356 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,050 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST URBAN VIII., 1623-1644. Die Münzstätte Rom. Piastra A XX/1643, Rom. Die Vertreibung Luzifers durch den Erzengel Michael. Stempelschneider Gaspare Mola. Mit „GM 1643 +“ auf der Vorderseite, auf der Rückseite oben eine Rosette und das Wappen der Münzmeister Antonio Francesco Franzetti e Prospero Pavia. R Kl. Zainende, sehr schön. (Papal States, Urban VIII, 1623-44, piastra of 1643, Rome mint. Obverse: Lucifer is defeated by the archangel Michael and the date; reverse: a rosette and the arms of the mintmasters. Rare, small clip, very fine.)"

This type was also struck year XV (1637). It is moderately priced compared to many other piastri of Urban VIII.
