Künker sale 403, lot 1561

This specimen was lot 1561 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €440 (about US$577 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST CLEMENS XII., 1730-1740. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone ANNO V (1734/1735), Rom. Die Vorderseitenumschrift mit CLEMENS und die Rückseite mit POPVLIS / IMMVNI / EMPORIO / DONATIS und dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Nicolò Casoni. Fast vorzüglich. (Papal States, Clement XII, 1730-40, testone of the year 5, Rome mint. The obverse legend with CLEMENS and the reverse with "POPVLIS / IMMVNI / EMPORIO / DONATIS" and the arms of the mintmaster. About extremely fine.)"

This testone is known for regnal years IV (1733) and V (1734). This was a profilic period for testoni, with many types struck each year. The testone's weight was reduced from 9.16 g to 8.40 g in 1734.
