Künker sale 403, lot 1423

This specimen was lot 1423 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,936 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST INNOCENZ XI., 1676-1689. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone A V (1680/1681) Rom. Mit incusem H und dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Domenico Maria Corsi, auf der Rückseite. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Papal States, Innocent XI, 1676-89, testone of the year 5, Rome mint, with incuse "H" and the mintmaster's arms on the reverse. Very attractive example with fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The testone was thirty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). This type was also struck in 1677. On the reverse, St. Peter aids the sick, even tho the victim says, "QVOD HABEO TIBIDO" ("I have a fever").
