Künker sale 403, lot 1422

This specimen was lot 1422 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,968 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST INNOCENZ XI., 1676-1689. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone A III (1678/1679) Rom. Mit Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Ottaviano Corsini, auf der Rückseite. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Papal States, Innocent XI, 1676-89, testone of the year 3, Rome mint, with the mintmaster's arms on the reverse. Handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The testone was thirty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). The reverse motto is taken from Psalms 61:11: "Nolite sperare in iniquitate, et rapinas nolite concupiscere; divitiæ si affluant, nolite cor apponere," that is, "Trust not in iniquity, and cover not robberies: if riches abound, set not your heart upon them."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.59 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 9,39 g.
