Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1731

This specimen was lot 1731 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €190 (about US$257 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Innocent XI (1676-1689), (Benedetto Odescalchi), AR giulio, an 3, Rome. D/ GRESSVS MEOS DIRIGE B. à d. R/ Armoiries. Belle patine au revers. Très Beau/Superbe. (Italy, Papal States, Innocent XI, 1676-89, silver giulio of the year 3, Rome mint. Obverse: bust right; reverse: arms. Beautiful patina on the reverse, Very Fine/Extremely Fine.)"

Berman notes that this type was struck years II and III and undated. It is fairly common with a number of appearances in the auction archives. The motto GRESSVS·MEOS·DIRIGE· translates as, "The Lord direct my steps".
