The first specimen was lot 24582 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,589.70. The catalog description[1] noted, "Papal States. Nicholas V (1447-55) gold Ducat ND, Rome mint, MS62 PCGS. • + • NICOLAVS • | • PP • QVIИTVS •, Papal arms in quadrilobe / • + • S • PETRVS • | • ALMA • ROMA •, St. Peter standing holding a key and the gospels within a quadrilobe. Despite weakness in the legends and a slightly off-center strike, the central details of this lightly-toned example are very sharp, particularly the portrait of St. Peter." This is the second and more common ducat of Nicholas V (1447-55).
