Sincona sale 51, lot 3773

This specimen was lot 3773 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Olmütz, Bistum, Rudolph Johann von Österreich, 1819-1830. Konventionstaler 1820, Wien. PCGS MS62. Hübsche Patina. (bishopric of Olmutz, Rudolf John of Austria, 1819-30, convention thaler of 1820, Vienna mint. Attractive patina.)"

Archduke Rudolf Johann was the last archbishop to issue coins for his state. In 1820, he had minted at Vienna a twenty kreuzer, half thaler, thaler (shown here) and ducat. This ecclesiastical state was in Moravia, then part of Austria, now the Czech Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly scarce.
