Olmutz 1779-W 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1530 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,855 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Olmütz, Bistum. Anton Theodor von Colloredo, 1777-1811. 1/2 Konventionstaler 1779, Wien. Mit der Signatur W (Johann Nepomuk Würth (Wirt, Wirth), Stempelschneider in Wien, seit 1778-1811). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. Winzige Sammlerpunze im Rand. (Austria, bishopric of Olmutz, Anthony Theodore of Colleredo, 1777-1811, half convention thaler of 1779, Vienna mint, with engraver's initial "W". Rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Tiny collector's punch on the edge.)"
This rare type was accompanied by a ten kreuzer (KM 480), twenty kreuzer (KM 482), thaler (KM 486) and ducat (KM 488). Only the ten kreuzer is common.
