Sincona sale 39, lot 3236

This specimen was lot 3236 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$168 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Nurnberg, Stadt, 30 Kreuzer 1765. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, city of Nuremberg, thirty kreuzer of 1765. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The relative rarity of German minors such as this thirty kreuzer is much less well documented than that of the thalers and ducats. This one year type is scarce, scarcer than the twenty kreuzer of the same date (KM 344). At least five different thalers exist from Nurnberg for 1765. Major rarities sell cheaply for lack of interest. Nuremberg was mediatized by Napoleon in 1806 and handed over to Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 6.99 g.

Catalog reference: Kellner 355, KM 345.
