Sincona sale 63, lot 437

This specimen was lot 437 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Nurnberg, City. 1/4 Taler 1693. Mit dem Münzmeisterzeichen G.F.N. (Georg Friedrich Nürnberger). Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, quarter thaler of 1693, with the privy mark of Georg Friedrich Nürnberger. Extremely fine, Attractively toned, Flan flaw on edge.)"

This type was struck 1693 only. It was the first quarter thaler issued since 1645.
