Sincona sale 63, lot 419

This specimen was lot 419 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Nurnberg, City. Reichsguldiner 1646. St. Sebaldus mit Kirchenmodel. Mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Georg Nürnberger der Ältere. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Zainende. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, gulden of 1646, St. Sebaldus with church model, in the name of Ferdinand III and cross privy mark. Very rare, Extremely fine, Nicely toned, Edge clip.)"

This type was struck 1638-46. Later in the seventeenth century, there would be a fad for this denomination and many north German states would issue them.
