CNG Lissner sale, lot 767

This specimen was lot 767 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $726. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NORWAY. Oskar II. 1872-1905. Æ Øre. Kongsberg mint. Dated 1885. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63 BN. Deep brown patina. The rarest date of the series. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, July 1980." In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark. This is the key date of a type struck 1876-99.
