Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 32629

This specimen was lot 32629 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 12 Skilling, 1865. Kongsberg Mint. Karl XV. PCGS MS-62. This handsome nearly-Choice Mint State example delivers good eye appeal, with light luster and a dusty tone throughout." This one year type is the next-to-last of a denomination first issued in 1717. It was worth one tenth of a specie daler. Norway was at this time under Swedish rule; after a century of tumultuous marriage, the Norwegians obtained a divorce in 1907 and have been independent since.
