Norway 1844 1/2 specie daler
This specimen was lot 2103 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,661 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH, Karl XIV. Johan, 1818-1844. 1/2 Speciedaler 1844, Kongsberg. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 65. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Kabinettstück. Erstabschlag. Fast Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Lissner Collection, Auktion CNG/St. James's 29, Chicago 2014, Nr. 744. (kingdom of Norway, Charles XIV John, 1818-44, half specie daler of 1844, Kongsberg mint. In NGC MS-65 holder. Very scarce in this quality, cabinet piece, first strike, about uncirculated, from the Lissner Collection.)"
This type was issued by Sweden for Norway 1844 only. Most half dalers are rare; this one is only scarce. The last one was struck in 1873.
