from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 11186

This specimen was lot 11186 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,440 (about US$1,501). The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1847. Kongsberg Mint. Oscar I. NGC AU-55. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1846-50 and 1855. It is somewhat scarce and this is a better date. Under Danish rule, one specie daler was 96 skilling; under Swedish rule, one specie daler was 120 skilling.

Recorded mintage: 47,100.

Specification: 14.45 g, 0.875 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, this specimen 14.43 g.
