Sincona sale 97, lot 1898

This specimen was lot 1898 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,451 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NORWEGEN, Karl XIV. Johann, 1818-1844. 1/2 Speciedaler 1836, Kongsberg. Fast vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (kingdom of Norway, Carl XIV Johan, 1818-44, half speciedaler of 1836, Kongsberg mint. About Extremely Fine, Nicely toned.)"

Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1807. This type was issued by Sweden for Norway 1827-44. Most dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: 4,000.

Specifications: 14.45 g, 0.875 fine silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 14.36 g.
