This specimen was lot 20591 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $776.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Krone, 1723-HCM. Frederik IV (1699-1730). NGC EF-40." This coin is a little small to be classed as a thaler (an honor more properly belonging to the contemporary six mark), but it has a Davenport number so we will include it. It is a one year type and like most Norwegian coins of the eighteenth century, it is scarce. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814.
Recorded mintage: 30,000.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.672 fine silver, .481 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 220; S-11; H-3; Dav-1290.
