Norway 1725 krone rev Heritage 3019-25220.jpg

This specimen was lot 25220 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $2,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederick IV Krone 1725-HCM, MS63 NGC, lightly toned with underlying luster, an original example with bold design features. Rare in this grade." This coin is a little small to be classed as a thaler (an honor more properly belonging to the contemporary six mark), but it has a Davenport number so we will include it. It is a two year type and like most Norwegian coins of the eighteenth century, it is scarce. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814.

Recorded mintage: 103,000.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.672 fine silver, .481 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 222, Dav-1292.
