Norway 1716-HCM 16 skilling
This specimen was lot 70268 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 16 Skilling, 1716-HCM. Frederick IV of Denmark. NGC MS-63. With quality that is never seen, this attractive minor offers deep gunmetal gray surfaces enlivened by some golden-russet hints throughout. Unsurprisingly, the finest of the date in the NGC census." Despite being minted in considerable quantities 1715-17, this type is scarce in nice condition. Other coins struck in 1716 include a two skilling (KM 215). Sixteen skilling made a mark. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814.
