Newfoundland 1894 cent
This specimen was lot 76284 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. Cent, 1894. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-62 Brown. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck for Newfoundland 1865, 1872-76, 1880, 1885, 1888-90, 1894-96. The 1872-H and 1876-H came from Heaton. It is rather low priced in circulated condition but rare in high grade. The smallness and poverty of the colony kept mintages low. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased.
Recorded mintage: 200,000, a fairly common date.
Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.3 mm diameter.
